19. The Boy Who Loves Swimming

Liam swims every day during summer—he’s on the local swim team. He practices at 7 a.m., swimming laps until his arms feel tired. His favorite stroke is freestyle, and he’s the fastest in his age group. Last summer, he won a gold medal in a swim meet. He loves the feeling of the water around him: “It’s like flying, but in water.” Liam also teaches his little sister to swim—he’s patient, even when she’s scared. He says swimming keeps him healthy and happy. “I could swim all day if I could,” he laughs.
